Will Sajjad Karim backfire?

by Sunny Hundal

Although Iain Dale and his lapdog are faithfully playing the party line that Sajjad Karim’s defection from the Libdems to the Tories is great news, I think it will backfire because of this. I said the same during the Southall by-election when the Tories trumped the defection of 5 Labour councillors and I was proven right. Wait for tomorrow’s headlines. The Tories want brown people not because they’re good but because they’re brown, it seems. Why not recruit ethnic minorities from the ground up instead?

Sunny, what an unbelievably awful thing to say. As I understand it, he approached us, not the other way around. I am sure the Tory Party welcomes all converts, whether white, brown or black. Your attitude betrays an ignorance that is unworthy of you. By all means make this site tribal, but that remark is just plain nasty.

As I understand it, he approached us, not the other way around.

Maybe, but are the Tories obliged to take everyone that comes to them? Given he was slagging off Cameron only months back, maybe more thought should have gone into it?

I’d rather assumed that the Tories’ very own ID card was offended at the suggestion that he keeps Guido as a (presumably semi-housetrained) pet…

Given he was slagging off Cameron only months back, maybe more thought should have gone into it?

Good point, it makes both him and the Tories look opportunistic…

So you think that Asians in the Tory party are there as a box tick, not because their contributions are valued?

Why, then, was Syeeda Warsi given a life peerage when she wasn’t elected?

Lots of ‘brown people’ are vastly more at home among conservative attitudes to entrepreneurship, family values etc.

It’s only dumb people who let their skin colour dictate their politics.

That shut him up.

Thank god something can.
