Hillary Clinton’s best speech yet

Inspirational, emotional, loyal to her voters – and most importantly – loyal to the party and highly appreciative of the need for Barack Obama’s candidacy. I think today Hillary Clinton shattered all those silly stereotypes that she cared only for herself and not the party. I salute you Hillary Clinton.

Best lines from her speech
“And although we weren’t able to shatter that highest, hardest glass ceiling this time, thanks to you it’s got about 18 million cracks in it.”

“Today, as I suspend my campaign, I congratulate him on the victory he has won and the extraordinary race he has run. I endorse him and throw my full support behind him.”

“The way to continue our fight now, to accomplish the goals for which we stand, is to take our energy, our passion, our strength, and do all we can to help elect Barack Obama the next president of the United States.”

“Please don’t go there. Every moment wasted looking back keeps us from moving forward. Life is too short, time is too precious and the stakes are too high to dwell on what might have been.”

“I am standing with Senator Obama to say, ‘Yes we can’”

“Now, think how much progress we’ve already made. When we first started, people everywhere asked the same questions. Could a woman really serve as commander-in-chief? Well, I think we answered that one. Could an African-American really be our president? And Senator Obama has answered that one.”

“Let us resolve and work toward achieving very simple propositions: There are no acceptable limits, and there are no acceptable prejudices in the 21st century in our country.”

Clinto –> Clinton
Appreciate –> appreciative

Fix them please!

Hillary gave a poor concession speech…in the end, Senator Clinton was just a weak old woman….I believe that she should have taken the fight to Denver….

Whoops, that’s what happens when you live blog.

And although we weren’t able to shatter that highest, hardest glass ceiling this time

Oh yes, it’s all the fault of that nasty patriarchy. If only Sirhan Sirhan were out of Jail she might have made it, as she intimated last week.

She may be disappointed, but anyone who has followed the Clinton dynasty over the years, has just breathed a massive sigh of relief. These guys make the Kennedys look like clean.

Read anything by Hitchens, C. on the matter and tell me you aren’t convinced. This is a gem:

http://www.slate.com/id/2182065/

If he picks her as VP he’ll need a food taster and a kevlar vest.

Sorry, but the sterotypes about her only caring for herself are not ‘silly’ they are based on her conduct throughout this campaign, most notably the disgraceful attacks on Move On, the infamous ‘straight out of the Republican playbook’ ’3am’ ad and her continuation of the race this long….

Oh yes, it’s all the fault of that nasty patriarchy.

Any other reason you can think why, for over 300 years, America hasn’t elected a woman president yet?

most notably the disgraceful attacks on Move On, the infamous ’straight out of the Republican playbook’ ‘3am’ ad and her continuation of the race this long….

A few things. While I agree the MoveOn attack wasn’t right, you can’t argue she shouldn’t do what she can in putting herself forward.

The coming attacks and insinuation from the Reblican camp are going to be much, much worse. Previous primaries even between Democrats have been worse.

Neither were the ‘bigging-up of McCain to elevate herself…neither was the 3am ad…if her speech had shown genuine signs of contrition then i would have warmed to it more…..because it didnt it struck me as posturing….no doubt your attitude will be the prevailing one one in the Democrat Party but that just shows how short peoples memories can be….I am kind of reminded of a quote from the House of Cards…’there is something deeply distasteful about somebody who stands up and rubbishes everything they believed in (and in Clinton’s case acted on) only a week earlier’…..politics huh *shrugs*

It’s a pity that she didn’t win the nomination. Of course

… I don’t like her far left opinions but at least she doesn’t try to pretend that she’s above politics. Now the American electorate is going to kid itself for a third time in a row. First it was Bill Clinton’s southern-fried-charm, then the phony super-patriotism of George W., now it’ll be the pretty-boy TV star Barrack Obama.

“… I don’t like her far left opinions but at least she doesn’t try to pretend that she’s above politics.”

Clinton? Far left? If that comment was written with a straight face, I think I’ll cry…

I think that was an excellent speech, the comment about the glass ceiling was well judged and she made it clear that it is not a viable option for her supporters to vote republican. I am also glad that she conceded, she fought for just as long as she should have, good decisions all round.

I salute you Hillary Clinton.

LOL! When did you join the military?? :D

I voted Hilary Clinton, and only support Hilary Clinton, No matter what Hilary Does suspend her campaign concede her campaign. No matter what Hilary does she could even support Obama and campaign for Obama I will never Vote for Barack Obama, I do think Amercia is ready for a black president, just not Barack Obama,,, The way The Democratic party handle this election with the Corporate Media propaganding this whole election, Turned this election upside down,, Obama could of ran over someone,, like Haley Berry, No one would care and still vote,, Obama..
There several million Voter right now like my self, will not ever vote for Barack Obama, Many like my self will be Voting for McCain, my reason is simple,, the Obama voter came on CNN & MSNBC and said if obama does not win the primary, Obama supporter will vote for McCain, Democratic party did not do anything to the obama camp to stop ,, why is obama party splittin the party in half, Now pelosi and many other are blamming Hilary and kept on with the propaganda Corporate Media, Obama Said on the new so many time,, does not Matter, if your Democrat or Republican,, you want the right person for the right Job,, He is so right,,when He said that we wanted Hilary,, Well Congrats to Obama his supporter got him to the primary,,,but He will never win the election,, for Prisident, I will not stop with my blogging,, who is the best man for the job between Barack & McCain,, will vote for McCain he will be way better than Barack Obama, I can put up for McCain for 4 years and Hilary Can run again, Pelosi and the rest of the democrat party,, days are number at this point, For pushing Hilary out and ruining her Career, Even now During Clinton Exit speech,, Democratic party Told Hilary if she does not back there little puppet Barack Obama they will ruin her career,, In my opinion They all ready Ruined Hilary Clintons Career, Right Now I am goint listen to one thing Barack Obama said, and that is, like I said, it does not matter if your Democrat or republican who is the right person for the job,,,, Hillary supporter need to stick together, Vote for McCain or just not vote for we need the right person,,, Hilary is up on stage right now saying what pelosi and the democratic party are telling her what to do,, or Economy is down and the way the propaganda Media is,, we are turning into a 3rd world country,, by rigging the election thru the media, Hilary Supporter who really want Hilary to be president Need to vote for McCain or just not Vote for Barack Obama, let McCain win,, there nothing more he can do as president, Congress will not let him it Congress who controls everything,, not the president, Pelosi and the a lot of the democratic party ruined Hilary Career, If all Hilary Voter, stick together, than We can restore Hilary Career and make her President, in 4 years. if you vote for Obama we have to wait maybe 8 years or 4 years and republican will be office, if Obama wins the presidency he will only be 4 year term,,, I say give all your supporter not to the democratic party, but to Hilary Clinton.. democratic party needs all of them need to leave office and get fresh people in there, who can unite the party not keep it separated and force unity, to who they want not who the voter want,, Hilary would of won this election, DNC screwed her with floriday and Michigan if those vote were counted at the beginning she would of won this race along time ago..and for the sexest Media, Like CNN & MSNBC… will continue to not report the new but Make it up as they see fit, All Hilary supporter need to unit together.. and stick together,, Margaret Thatcher was prime Minister 30 years ago,, but American Men and New Bias, is keeping woman down for personal gain, Like Keith Oberman, & Chris Mathews Who are the biggest Sexest on this MSNBC stations,

wtf?

Oh yes, it’s all the fault of that nasty patriarchy

Any other reason you can think why, for over 300 years, America hasn’t elected a woman president yet?

Give over Sunny, you’re breaking my heart. She had just as much chance of winning the nomination this time as Obama did. Except she fought a (much) poorer campaign. and consequently she was beaten by a far better candidate. She represents the politics of the past (a past which she selectively remembers depending on the audience) and he the future. I can’t help thinking there has been a certain inevitably to it all.

Anyway, I’d never trust someone whose husband drags their name through the mud repeatedly in numerous affairs and she didn’t divorce him!! Power Power Power – it’s all she’s concerned about.

She had just as much chance of winning the nomination this time as Obama did. Except she fought a (much) poorer campaign. and consequently she was beaten by a far better candidate.

I’m not denying that. But that isn’t the point. You said:

Oh yes, it’s all the fault of that nasty patriarchy

…. as if it doesn’t exist. Which betrays a certain amount of delusion. Would you like to to point towards videos which illustrate instances of sexism that she faced? Or would I be breaking your heart again?

I asked you a simple question: why do you think the US has never elected a woman president? Why do we even need to ask whether ‘America is ready for a woman president?’

I don’t think it does exist now, no. It did at one time and that was a very bad thing but to pretend (in her own delusion) that’s the reason for not getting the nominated is, frankly, rubbish.

So, admittedly, that’s why they’ve never elected one to now, but I really don’t think it’s the case here.

As for asking the question – I think it’s a fair question to be asked when you move from one Social dynamic to another – from non-acceptance of a female president to acceptance; since what that question is really asking is this:

“Have we, as a Country, evolved from a backward social construct to a more progressive and forward thinking one?” If the answer is yes, and a female president is acceptable to the majority of people – great, if not, we are a backward state not fit to “promote” democracy anywhere else in the world and it should be a stain on the national consciousness.

Paul V is Mark Penn and I claim my fifty pounds.

LOL! When did you join the military??

Heh, my family has a long history. :-\

Neither were the ‘bigging-up of McCain to elevate herself…neither was the 3am ad…

I didn’t like either… especially the bigging up of McCain. But it’s standard primary fare. I’m not saying Clinton ran a campaign that I agreed with entirely. I was frequently critical of her. My point is that by putting her entire weight behind Obama she has redeemed herself.

And I do have to admit, her stubborn tenacity was about pushing the glass ceiling (and her own ambitions of course, but I don’t hold ambition as a negative quality) and she made that point.

Apart from the racial remarks she made, I thought she ran a good campaign. Obama just out-campaigned her. She won’t make VP of course. That would be stupidity.

Dan, see this:

In fact, that blog has plenty more examples if you search for them. There’s a video on YouTube bringin them all together too.

Hillary Clinton sure can swing with the wind, or maybe she just spots bandwagons going past and likes jumping on…

Admittedly Team Clinton can pick from the best speechwriters of their generation to try to sway you with rhetoric, but the words don’t wuite do enough to convice when coming from her mouth.

There are major questions that she couldn’t answer about her judgement which can be traced back to her early days from when she swapped party allegiance almost overnight, to her continuing political alliance of conveniance with her husband, to her opposite positions on presidential indictments through the years, to how her senatorial campaign on an anti-gender platform compares with her presidential campaign was run on a vigorous gender-based campaign, as well her flip-flopping on policy issues like Iraq.

She has been exposed as an over-ambitious opportunist time and time again that it raises questions about her real political interests: the fact that she and her husband have created and profited from a mini political industry by turning themselves into a dynastic brand suggests she is primarily self-interested and a bad candidate for the highest office.

Now she has lost she takes the expeditious course of papering over the flaws in her own character and the divisions she opened up in the Democratic party, and she is suspected to be angling for a new role on the inside – would anyone be surprised?

It must be depressing for Amercans to be faced with a political system which offers a competent administrator and archetypal establishment figure like her as the radical choice for their national leadership.

My point is that by putting her entire weight behind Obama she has redeemed herself.

Lol! No she hasn’t, it was pure political calculation, not revelation on the road to Damascus!

She had no choice but to do that because her political career would’ve been over if she’d done anything other. She’s going to run once Obama has had his two terms and has to keep people sweet to achieve that.
