The blog Boing Boing reports of a HM Revenue and Customs page for ‘What to do if you suspect or discover fraud’ being littered with: This text has been withheld because of exemptions in the Freedom of Information Act 2000 sentences everywhere. Hilarious stuff.

Funny, yes, but HMRC are doing exactly what (IMO) they should be. They’ve put all their staff manuals online, stripped of the sensitive bits. Good on them!
So this page is from a manual aimed at their own employees. How they detect fraud is something that should be excluded from FOI – it’s of major interest to fraudsters, and limited interest to the rest of the public.
