Peers have warned a “quasi-judicial” role for parliament risks undermining the independence of judges and the chances of a fair trial for suspects. The 42 days legislation is now almost certain for defeat in the Lords.

BritSwedeGuy, I think the point was incisively made by Alistair Carmichael MP:
““People who hope to be due for re-election in two years’ time are not the best people to trust with the liberty of the individual.”
A tour guide informed my group at the Houses of Commons that there was ‘no chance’ that the bill would get through.
