Can this man unseat Nadine Dorries?

Will it take one airhead wannabe celeb to unseat another? The Independent and Sky News are reporting that “former pop singer and reality TV star” David Van Day is exploring the possibility of standing against Mid-Bedfordshire MP Nadine Dorries. The Indy reminds readers:

The Tory MP is said to have claimed for a New Year’s Eve hotel room and a second home allowance while only having one home. She also got taxpayers to foot the bill for a lost £2,190 deposit on a rented flat, the Daily Telegraph reported

According to news reports he plans to visit her constituency under the ‘No Expenses Party’ banner and find out if residents are receptive. We wish him all the best. Anyone who can raise awareness of Dorries’ comments and expenses is more than welcome to do so. Last week Ms Dorries also said Trident was not a weapon of mass destruction.

Anyone else willing to join the fray? After all, they’re only responding to David Cameron’s call.

Sunny adds: Nadine Dorries’ blog is back up, and fully re-worked. It looks like her blog was down so it could be upgraded, rather than libel reasons (which have not been mentioned on her blog).

Terrifying, whichever way one looks at it. Terrifying. And it doesn’t make for good reading, either.

What pisses me off most about this sort of thing is that, while we’re all pointing at Dorries and laughing, we’re distracted from the real story; the story of fraud, theft and blatant immorality.

As I just blogged, over here, fascinating though this woman’s deluding ramblings doubtless are,why is Hazel Blears still in the Cabinet? Why do the Balls remain completely untouched? Why is Elliot Morely not in prison yet?
And why, why-oh-why hasn’t Baroness Uddin been dragged onto the streets and hung from a lamp-post?

All because we’re having a good laugh at the hysterical blonde, that’s why…

Hmm, OK. I have two issues with this. Firstly, replacing one Tory for another is hardly going to further the cause of the liberal-left. Secondly, the idea of ‘no expenses’ is a horrifying thought which, if you follow through to the logical conclusion, will find only those rich enough to stand as MP’s. If there are no expenses, how can anyone that isn’t already rich stand? This goes completely against representative democracy and should be challenged now before any change to the system is made that removes any chance of anyone but the rich being able to stand.

The fight has far more broader issues at stake than simply getting rid of one Tory MP on the take.
Be careful what you wish for.

Firstly, replacing one Tory for another is hardly going to further the cause of the liberal-left.

If he wins straight, it probably won’t (though he may not be a Christianist right-winger like Dorries). However, if this farce highlights her own expense claims, then great.

“Why is Elliot Morely not in prison yet?”

The crisis of overcrowding in prisons might be an answer.

As a serving prison officer in his constituency has stated, he is locking the door on offenders who have done less.

Nadine is back! http://blog.dorries.org/Default.aspx

And already lying to her constituents again:

“I have spent the last 48 hrs in bed. I told everyone it was a bad tummy, it wasn’t”

She can’t even tell the truth about tiny things like that!

You forgot, like so many have, Miss Smith. iPhones and husband go just as well as porn and her husband.

Oh dear, Mad Nad Little Dorries has gone even loopier:

“Never again must democracy be threatened or the innocent be victimised whilst two of the richest men in the world, sit back and become even richer.”

What next ‘Bucks Fizz’ bidding to join the House of Lords?

I don’t think Cameron realises how dangerous a game he is playing. Most Tories do not want change in the gentleman’s club…….. They just want to be the ones running it. All this talk of reform could quite quickly get out of hand, and he could find himself very unpopular amongst the grandees of his party.

They don’t want open primaries, they like the fact that most safe seats are a job for life. The last thing they want is to be faced with a challenge every five years.

Me thinks the Daily Telegraph may start to row back on some of this stuff.

LibCon is becoming Dories-fest.

She may be an idiot, but she’s by no means the only person implicated in this scandal. I know this is a left-wing blog, so obviously we’re all going to focus on what the Tories have done wrong – but at the moment there’s a real danger of looking like this blog is wilfully pretending Labour has done nothing wrong whilst pointing and shouting at the Tories.

That, if left to run and run, will undermine the quality reputation this blog has deservedly earned.

12. elaine shortland

Fantastic news, Van Day is amazing! – He will make a good MP.

Poor old Mad Nad though – perhaps she should have some Bucks Fizz!

Eh, she could claim it on expenses.

13. Larry Teabag

If I lived in Mid-Bedfordshire, Nad could be assured of my anti-Van Day protest vote.

14. jailhouselawyer

Personally, I think Nadine Dorries should be sectioned off under the Mental Health Act.

The sick Nadine Dorries should pick up thy bed and walk

Nadine does mention on her blog that the Telegraph’s lawyers took her blog down.

I’ve been a LibDem for 17 years and I come here and I read these comments and I don’t know who you people are or what on earth I could have in common with you. This is all the tribal nastiness I used to despise in Labour and the Conservatives. Perhaps I’m just not used to the internet and the blogosphere.

I’m sorry, but Nadine Dorries spoke up against something she saw as wrong and her blog was taken down and I guess I just expected more from fellow Liberals than this.

16. Larry Teabag

Twat.

Nadine Dorries is only one of many ‘high profile’ Tory (and Labour) MPs this blog has criticised in the past. If you want to know why we’re so anti-Dorries, then please browse these previous posts:
https://liberalconspiracy.org/lc/briefings/nadine-dorries-hfe/

Bizarre, that when constantly criticise party leaders then it’s fine, but as soon as you point out the silliness of some Tory MPs, you get accused of being partisan and increasingly tribal. Sorry, I don’t buy it. This is politics – it’s partisan.

Nadine Dorries is a regular target of ridicule, not just on this blog but across the blogosphere, for very good reasons. She is self-righteous, smug, paranoid, dishonest, hypocritical and can’t seem to keep waving it about on the blogosphere. This is a progressive blog and Dorries is distinctly regressive not only in her politics but in the way she thinks she can write any old unresearched untrue garbage about abortion or anything else on her blog, and get away with it. Welcome to the 21st century internets, Nadine.

Think of the blogosphere as a big space for discussion and debate: if someone regularly castigates and lies about various others inside that space, is it not inevitable that those others and others beside them will turn on the lying castigator? You might as well ask why Iain Dale comes in for a lot of flack from here and other progressive blogs. Might have something to do with the fact that he is a loudmouth who likes to pretend he has the authority to speak on behalf of all bloggers. Everything I said about Dorries applies to him.

Plus, they’re both twats. The bigger the twat, the more blogging ridicule.

Steve sounds like what is known in the trade as a ‘concern troll .’

They pretend to be very concerned that liberals are saying nasty things about Conservatives. And they urge Liberals to be less partisan. Trouble is, they never ask the normal trolls to do the same.

Oh, I don’t know – personally I think Nad should be given a prime trime BBC1 slot to froth at the mouth about “Humanzees” and the potential mass suicides of MPs terrified of having to reveal the profit margins which they garnered from selling the houses which the taxpayer kindly facilitated them buying. It’d do more to bolster progressive politics and discredit conservatism than anything we’d say.

Go Nad!

Jesus, David Van Day, is that the best they could come up with? Was Timmy Mallet busy elsewhere or something?

“Jesus, David Van Day, is that the best they could come up with? Was Timmy Mallet busy elsewhere or something?”

Yea, but ‘call me’ Dave has said that any Tom, Dick or Harry can have a go. So this what you get.

A Tory front bench of Van Day, Popeye, Sooty and Sweep, and Steve Davis.

It looks like her blog was in fact taken down for libellous reasons rather than upgrading. She says:

“As well as waiting during the night on Friday to see if my career was in tatters, I also had to deal with the minor problem of the Barclay Brother’s use of global lawyers and the removal of my blog site on behalf of the Telegraph Group”

From reading her blog, she seems to be seriously deluded, seeing her ridiculous comments as an act of great bravery and self-sacrifice on behalf of truth, democracy and her “innocent” suffering friends in Parliament. It really has to be read to be believed.

There’s also this sentence which is one of the oddest I’ve read in a long time:

“It was shortly after reading the Saturday morning press when realising that with the Archbishops comments, that at least I had God on my side, I began to vomit.”

1. Which planet do you and the commenters below live on? We are in the middle of the worst economic crisis since at least the 1930s, it was caused by the banks: nobody dispute that? Good – the banks are assuming that if they just keep there heads down for a bit everybody will forget the huge tax-payer-funded recapitalisations, loans and straight gifts and they can go back to the old way of doing things fairly soon. With whopper-chopper bonuses and funny-money and all that sort of thing. And what do you want to see on the front pages? Outrage about duck-islands, moat-cleaning and wisteria pruning.

2, Oh – except you don’t. Not the wisteria pruning thing. Taxpayer funded duck islands? A big no-no. Outrage! Wisteria? We-e-e-el it is the Leader Of The Opposition – mustn’t embarass him must we? He did pay it back – and he has thrown all the duck-island investors and moat cleaners to the sharks hasn’t he? Paying the money back is no excuse for them – so that proves just how conscientious he is. So nobody must say anything nasty about him. Sh ….. t!

Worst thing Labour ever did was encourage Alastair Campbell to start getting in touch with his feminine side. Cameron should be turning in the wind by now – baring in mind we are supposed to be talking morality, ethics and etc here – what precisely is the difference between wisteria, duck-islands and moats when their owners charge them to the tax-payer.

How is Cameron getting away with this?

Sally, I don’t want Sooty running for MP as there are enough whispering campaigns in politics as there is.

It looks like her blog was in fact taken down for libellous reasons rather than upgrading. She says:

I failed to see that bit – I’ve deleted my comment above.

“It was shortly after reading the Saturday morning press when realising that with the Archbishops comments, that at least I had God on my side, I began to vomit.”

I don’t care how much of a twat Van Day is, Dorries does not belong in the Mother of All Parliaments. Maybe she can get a part-time job in the London Dungeon, vomiting occasionally to scare visitors. But House of Commons? How did it get to this?

This is absolutely ridiculous. Getting Esther Rantzen at the other end of Luton was bad enough. When we’ve finished being angry with politicians we need to do something about our national surfeit of second rate non-celebrities.

” We are in the middle of the worst economic crisis since at least the 1930s, it was caused by the banks: nobody dispute that? ”

Yeah, actually. A massive 15-year trade imbalance with China, low-income inflation coupled with high-asset inflation, and a credit and housing bubble being the consequence of all this (as well as massive bank irresponsibility), had an awful lot to do with it.

Still, easier to pick on target and shoot at that. Kind of like burning all MPs alive on the basis that “they’re all the same anyway”.

30. elaine shortland

The news is that Van Day is going to start a turf war – he is going to campaign today right outside her house.

This will make interesting news i’m sure…
