David Cameron’s new EU alliance of bigots crumbling already
On a good day to bury bad news, while the Speaker was being elected, David Cameron announced a new alliance of European parties straddling the centre-right to the far-right. The alliance included Poland’s openly homophobic Law and Justice party, a concern that Cameron’s deputies dismissed.
The new alliance is overwhelmingly dominated by British MEPs, and propped up by…
…five individual MEPs that the new group has to keep sweet in order to maintain the requirement for all groups to have members from at least seven member states. They can afford to lose one, and that’s it. Any more and their new group is kaput.
It now looks that threat is in danger of coming closer to reality, as the sole MEP from Finland defects back to the older alliance.
One more and Cameron’s dream-team in Europe will blow up in his face.
Update: Jon Worth has more, and asks whether the Tory blogs will even mention it.

If you happen to point out the Tories’ continued fraternisation with racists, then you get a world of shit headed your way.
At least, that was my experience.
I wondered when you would run this story because it does show the true face of the Cameron Tory party. And when you add to it the hostility the Tory party has to the new speaker, just because he has some socially progressive views it just confirms that Cameron is all green wash.,
The Tory party are not the nasty party anymore ,they are the very nasty, insane whack job party. They are just becoming more like the Republican party everyday. Their supporters will be gunning down abortion doctors soon, and no doubt then defended by Ian Dale.
“If you happen to point out the Tories’ continued fraternisation with racists, then you get a world of shit headed your way.”
Bring it on.
To be fair, no one in the apathetic UK electorate is going to care about what happens to the Tories in Europe, whether or not the media report it. I’m surprised the BNP haven’t tried to join the new Tory group.
Fraternisation with? There are many racists IN the Tory Party, not just chumming around with them in Brussels!
Is Dan Hannan in the new group? I recall he actually wasn’t in EPP when the Tories split.
“If you happen to point out the Tories’ continued fraternisation with racists, then you get a world of shit headed your way.”
“Children, Not Indians” was the campaign slogan of German conservatives in the EPP. They were fraternising with racists before, why did nobody make a fuss then?
“Their supporters will be gunning down abortion doctors soon, and no doubt then defended by Ian Dale.”
Lol, Sally you are a star!
Sally – It wouldn’t be Dale, but there’s a good chance Nadine Dorries would do it.
Sally – It wouldn’t be Dale, but there’s a good chance Nadine Dorries would do it.
Seconded!
Dale would write incoherent rants on his blog in support of Dorries, whilst hundreds of impotent Tory cyber-prats write comments saying how wonderful Dorries is and if only all women were like her, etc
C’mon folks – that’s just in bad faith.
What Iain Dale will actually do is accuse lefties of not having a sense of humour or say we’re desperately trying to prop up Gordon Brown while pointing out that hanging around with racists and homophobes isn’t a big deal really, when there’s far more important stories like how many Tories voted for John Bercow.
Surely even Dale wouldn’t try to argue that Cameron’s Polish allies are sane, or in any regard better than Civic Platform?
“Children, Not Indians” was the campaign slogan of German conservatives in the EPP.
Which does of course sound very racist, but the point of the slogan was that Germany should be teaching its children to use computers, rather than exporting IT jobs to India. So, it’s protectionist, rather than racist. Of course, the Conservative Party has abandoned its previous support for protectionism…
Let us not forget this, also;
“Hague dismissed “out-of-date and ill-informed” criticisms that Poland’s Law and Justice party was homophobic. “The Law and Justice party is a party committed to be against discrimination, for equality under the law,” he told the BBC.”
Surely the reason Tory top brass dislike Bercow so much is not because he straddled Labour MP’s, or he became too moderate, but rather they are recruiting a bandwagon of “cranks” in Europe so right wing they make the Monday Club look like a girlie 5-a-side football team.
Cameron’s alliance with Nick Robinson contines.
Did you see Nick (I want to have David Cameron’s children) Robinson on the BBC tonight?
His reporting gets more biased by the day. He may as well appear with a big blue rosette on his chest. What a wanker.

Check out the comments thread.
Now, I fully deserve some of the shit. The interview that gets dragged up is unbelievably embarrassing and cringeworthy – and I deserve to have the piss taken out of me for that.
But it’s quite a world of shit I stepped into…
I wouldn’t worry too much about the comment threads on CIF I was you. Given that one of the most common commenters is PikeBishop, and there are far too many libertarian and racist cranks trying to bait lefties on there, it’s best not to take everything to heart.
Paul S, worry not. I was looking down on the comments thread and found this gem;

I’ve got a friend in the “far-left” Socialist Party who openly refers to Poles as “White Ni***rs”.
Ergo, The Socialist Party is racist.
Ha ha, I see what s/he was trying to do there, but s/he is flatly wrong for making such a curious observance. The point remains, however, is why does this person’s friend do such a thing? What does it mean? And as far as I looked on the thread, s/he shed no more light on the matter. It left me cold and empty.
Point being, I suppose, CiF threads are filled with dreaded wallies, crazies, loonies and killers (perhaps?). And those buzzwords you used probably drew in ten times as many as there would be hanging around anyway. Chin up.
I love the idea that racist lefties have never existed. It seems a fact of law on this site that left-wingers are intrinsically non-racist regardless of known history.
Has anyone got a pic of Sally by the way? I’m thinking of starting a fan club.
No one seems fussed that the EPP contains neo-fascists, or indeed that the socialist group contained former members of the Stasi.
This whole business has really been accuse for some massive outpourings of misleading hypocrisyt
“I love the idea that racist lefties have never existed. It seems a fact of law on this site that left-wingers are intrinsically non-racist regardless of known history.”
Workers of the World unite for a White South Africa – slogan of the SA Communist Party in the 1920s.
“Has anyone got a pic of Sally by the way? I’m thinking of starting a fan club.”
Hear hear!
“Sally” is a computer program.
