Nut-jobs compare Obama to Hitler/Stalin

It’s only been 6 months since he became President and right-wingers in America are already busy comparing Obama to Hitler.

The imagery below is published by LaRouche Pac, a lobby group in the United States organising against Obama’s health-care bill.

But lobby groups aren’t the only ones taking things to an extreme.

This week Rush Limbaugh, the unofficial leader of the Republicans and the popular right-wing talkshow host, compared Barack Obama to Adolf Hitler and Nancy Pelosi to Nazi leaders.

But while the US media and Republicans shrieked in anger when a MoveOn.org ad in 2004 compared Bush to Hitler, the response to Limbaugh’s tirade has been much more muted.

Elsewhere too, the Republican opposition to Obama’s healthcare plans is turning ugly.

Republican and pharma-funded lobby groups are organising Americans to attend meetings where politicans are talking about healthcare – to ‘send them a message’.

Angry scenes broke out in Florida this week when a large mob assembled in Tampa Bay to oppose Obama’s healthcare plans.

According to the Huffington Post:

Police officers were called to calm down an unruly crowd outside a health care reform town hall meeting in downtown Tampa, Florida on Thursday evening, according to local news reports.

Many of the hundreds of protesters said that they had been inspired by a conservative activist group promoted by Fox News host Glenn Beck and some received emails from the county

Several hours after this story was posted on Thursday night, the Tampa Tribune removed a reference to protesters carrying signs that depicted President Obama as the Joker. Yet one conservative blogger who attended the event reports seeing several people “with signs depicting President Obama as the Joker.”

But Obama’s critics, while not short of hyperbole, are having trouble deciding who exactly they should paint him as.

Some have obviously gone for Nazi symbolism. Others are trying their hand at painting Obama as a communist.

Is anyone going to denounce these nutters as ‘anti-American’? We’ll have to wait and see.

Healthcare, Holocaust. You can see how easy it is to get these things confused if your parents were siblings.

It should be noted that LaRouche PAC are connected with Lyndon LaRouche (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lyndon_LaRouche). Which explains a lot.

Chris,

It’s worth noting that Lyndon Larouche, whose organisations created the worst of the material above, isn’t generally seen as right wing:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lyndon_Larouche

He’s just insane. And, is more associated with the political left than the right (apparently, he tends to run for the Democratic nomination or under the “U.S. Labor Party” banner) – though more than anything he occupies an insane space outside any particular ideological classification.

I’m not sure it’s fair to tar mainstream opponents of Obama’s healthcare proposals with that brush.

Best,
Matt

‘apparently, he tends to run for the Democratic nomination or under the “U.S. Labor Party” banner’

Worth bringing up in any discussion of ‘open primaries’ – the Dems have to keep playing procedural games to keep him off their ticket.

Yes but Rush Limbaugh certainly ain’t on the left.

And neither is La Rouche, despite his background.

I’m slightly worried that if I used LC as my only source of information about what’s going on in American politics, I might end up with a slightly biased picture. Am I wrong?

LaRouche claims that the Queen runs the international heroin trade amongst other things.

Left/Right isn’t the issue with him, it’s insanity.

Unfair to British nut-jobs.

Warner, of the Dully Tele, has been calling him “Pantywaiste” Obama for many months now. http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/geraldwarner/100005770/barack-obama-president-pantywaist-rolls-over-again-for-kim-jong-il/

British nut-jobs rule the nut-job world, mate!

9. Planeshift

Sorry..just have visions of the queen getting arrested at bangkok airport with a few kilos of heroin. Wonder how the royal pardon thing would work in this case?

As Al Franken satirically noted in the title of his book “Rush Limbaugh Is A Big Fat Idiot”, the man relies on nothing more than ad hominem polemic to cover up just how little he knows about life, the universe and everything.

But come on…the world would be so much less fun without him, Coulter, and O’Reilly.

So, why has the response to Limbaughs ‘tirade’ been much more muted?

1. The $$ trillions spent on the bank bail out,
2. The $$ billions for cap and trade,
3. The bail out / state intervention in the motor industry
4. The proposed healthcare reforms which were initially sold to the electorate as ‘more coverage for less money’. And we know where half truths for good causes lead to don’t we?
5. Quantitative easing ……….. (AKA inflation).

The unprecedented levels of state intervention since Obama was inaugerated is why the reaction is more muted. Sure the recession has to be responsed to forcefully but these are things not seen since FDR was in office – when Hitler and Stalin were in power as well.

Whereas calling George W Bush ‘Hitler’ is a bit like calling Ann Widdicomb ‘Myra Hindley’.

shatterface didn’t complain about the use of the word nut-jobs? The world is full of NUTS, the crazy are the sane, and so on…

Personally I much prefer the term “camel job” after Jasper Carrot’s hilarious monologue, in which the loony coming up the stairs on the bus shreiks: “Where’s my camel!” and sits next to Carrot.

“Nut job” is just so “Frontier Psychiatrist” . . . “you’re a nut, you’re crazy in the coconut!”

“Rush Limbaugh Is A Big Fat Idiot” true, but not so engaging or amusing as either.

You guys called Bush Hitler for 8 years! I always find it funny how you guys dish it out all the time, but cannot take it! Please stop! Need to stop laughing and get back to work!
