Mayor of Doncaster and the Taliban

Yep, apparently we could all learn from the Taliban:
Peter Davies, who has made it his personal mission to rid Doncaster of political correctness, said that under the Taliban, Afghanistan had an “ordered system of family life”. By contrast he said social policies which disregarded the importance of the traditional family had “created mayhem” in Britain.
Under the Taliban, women were banned from working outside the home, studying in schools or universities, from talking to men who were not family members, and from wearing cosmetics, high heels, or clothes made in “sexually attracting colours”.
They were stoned to death if caught having sex outside marriage, and whipped for not covering their ankles in public or being unaccompanied by a suitable male relative in public. Despite these shortcomings – which Amnesty International concluded “virtually confined women to the home” – Mr Davies said the Taliban’s rule did have some advantages.
WTF, it is like saying the trains ran on time under the Nazi’s, so lets not worry about concentration camps. Sometimes a regime is so oppressive that nothing can be added to the equation as an ‘advantage.’
But what does the Mayor consider makes up for girls and women living as less than second class citizens, where they risk physical attacks or death by going to school or clawing back the bare minimum of control of their own lives and bodies.
Of course he doesn’t like the Taliban, but :
He stressed that he “detested” the Taliban, but added: “The point I was making was that even a regime as hideous as the Taliban at least appear to have sort of decent sort of family affairs. In fact probably…they have an ordered society.
“We in this country have created mayhem through lax social policies of disregard for marriage and the family and we have created mayhem in society.”
Now before some of you get your knickers in a twist and say that I’m supporting the invasion of Afghanistan, think the situation is great for women etc etc , I’m not. I’m talking about the Taliban because that is what the nasty little fuckwit in Doncaster is talking about. I’m addressing his points , its not a post about the general oppressive way women are treated , whether by the Karzai administration or the Taliban. Clear?
Here are some posts that look at how women are not better off under the invasion.
Anyway, this man is a fuckwit. See here for a campaign against him.

“this man is a fuckwit.” The Daily Mail and Taxpayers Alliance would disagree: http://www.taxpayersalliance.com/media/2009/09/daily-mail-why-cant-dave-and-gordon-learn-a-few-lessons-from-britains-most-gloriously-unpc-supermayo.html
To be fair on Davies, it will be an interesting experiment to see how he does. I predict tears before reelection but if that proves to be the case it will be fun rubbing his nose in it.
Whatever crimes the Mayor of Donnie might have committed, and I’m sure the list is fairly extensive, supporting the Taliban isn’t one of them.
To be honest I think most sensible Tories are not really that bothered about what people do or don’t get up to in their private lives – no, what really consumes them is the effect various social arrangements have on the wider community.
In short they want a very good reason before having to bear the cost of housing families, other than their own, or paying benefits, etc.
Equally they are concerned about being hit over the head on the way to the late night corner shop – sadly some families are so disturbed nowadays that they are even producing child torturers.
These two young ragamuffins just happen to be from the Mayor’s patch – perhaps he is right to be worried?

Nah…that was Mussolini with the trains…it’s a fairly safe bet German trains were running on time well before the Nazis. As it happens, the trains in Italy were just as shit after he took over…the only one that seemed to perform especially well was the one that took him to catch up with the ‘March on Rome’ which he copped out of in anticipation of the thorough kicking he expected the blackshirts to suffer. Once it didn’t materialise, he hired a special train and arrived just in time to strut his stuff as a prime example of glorious Italian manhood.
I’m guessing you went to school in Doncaster Stroppybird. Mind you History isn’t what it used to be, eh? They say it’s a waste of time these days…a sordid tale of fat, middle-aged white men carving up the planet to suppress diversity and cultural identity…but what fuckin use is a GCSE in combined humanities when you don’t know the first thing about the part played by the locomotive in the creation of dodgy analogies? Has Peter Davies got to grips with the local curriculum yet? Those lucky Doncaster youngsters! It’ll be Bible study, metalwork, Trigonometry then home to watch reruns of Muffin the Mule on the Doncaster Broadcasting Corporation. I’ believe he’s turned the place into a 50s themepark…last Tuesday was skiffle night and they had bananas at the Co-op.
Might be worth NuLabour, Paul Sagar and Sunny Hundal paying a visit, mind…maybe nip down the Labour club and find out what a left-winger looks like.
Btw…If you ever see Nick Griffin trying to commandeer an Arriva coach to take him to Burnley…watch your backs.
Children in Afghanistan weren’t at risk of abuse from violent parents? Absolute bollocks. Given that it wasn’t a crime to beat your wife if she refused you sex (at the moment, new regulation says that an Afghani husband can starve his wife if she does not sleep with him for longer than four days) I very much doubt that sort of thing would be reported enough for there to be reliable statistics on the matter.
If “having regard for marriage and family values” means that everything the father or grandfather says goes, wives have no rights or freedoms whatsoever and are nothing more than subservient chattel, I’d rather not have those kind of family values thank you.
Then again, this fellow and those like him seem to call for the days when women knew their place and non-WASPs didn’t demand silly things like equality. It’s no surprise then that he would consider the Taliban as running an “ordered” society.
Lets have a look at that hubris-o-meter for Peter Davis, the dial has swung round so hard that its been detached and its hit a passing pensioner.
Though, seriously, if people were to get their knickers in a twist over you pouring scorn on the Taliban, sod them, its their calculators who are getting 5 after typing 2 and 2, not yours.
Isn’t male/boy paedophilia not culturally unusual in Afghanistan?
Davis is, when you strip away the Taliban crap, merely expressing the usual ‘bloody feminists are responsible for removing the father’s right to absolute power in his own home and thereby ruined society’ bollocks that has marked out reactionary morons and pub bores for decades, only he’s managed to get elected on it.
He’s quite well linked to the Tories but probably not for me to say. Donny needs unbelievable amounts of help after a disastrous run of bad form and the Edlington case is, well, certainly part of their children’s services being utterly unfit. It’s not a party political thing but if this chap supports the CYP service, gets the right staff, appoints the right cabinet member then if we all cross our fingers and pray then just maybe. Obviously he’s gonna attract headlines but for this guy, well, i’d not want his job but then I puke quite easily. Good luck to him, he bloody needs it and so does Donny.
Yup, what Tom says above. In fact this kind of crap is common on the right. When you hear the likes of Melanie Phillips screaming about dhimmitude and capitulating to Islamists in the UK, what she wants to replace that with is Christianists.
In other words the response to Muslim extremists isn’t liberalism for them, but Christian extremists. So the Mayor of Doncaster is merely articulating that, but in his typical stupid way.
Very little difference between the Taliban and the Christian right wing. And both have their terrorist wing.
I genuinely do think you’re giving him a bit too much credit. I very much doubt he reads Mellanie Philips (does anyone?) but he was a deputy head at a secondary school. He has been a Tory but that don’t mean shit round there – you get judged on record and they’ve had some utter gimps previous. Donny doesn’t really have race problems – it’s ex mining, ex industry – proper hard left & pissed off.
You couldn’t make up the Mayor of Doncaster even if you tried.
Of course what Peter Davies said was ridiculous. But this article is depressing to read. If you want to know why the British left wandered into an intellectual swap from which it has yet to emerge it could be something to do with the sloppiness and complacency of this article. Calling someone “a nasty little fuckwit” just hands them the high ground, intellectually and morally. It’s bankrupt politics. And as for spelling “Nazis” as “Nazi’s” . . . what happened to the educated, cultured left?
Douglas, you are clutching at straws, as always and if that’s the best you’ve got…
Sadly, I’m not.
If only I were!
Abusive language and butcher’s apostrophes do not a coherent political argument (nor, indeed, movement) make, unfortunately.
There’s a quality-control issue (or maybe, to be charitable, it’s a presentational issue) with much of the dialogue I see on the left, and it’s perfectly valid to point this out. I’m just trying to help. Time to raise your game.
You do know that getting hung-up on spelling is a good way of showing someone that you’re ducking the argument and in a post about this idiot drawing some poor comparisons it makes you look as if you agree with them.
Also, hate to break it to you but you are the arbiter of Internet content, don’t confuse your own opinion with fact.
Just a thought.
Dear Stroppybird,
I too am apalled at Mr. Davies and the voters who supported him. But, as I have said many times in this and other fora, the rise of the far-right is not something about which we can be complacent. It’s time to stand up for political correctness!
best wishes,
Nick

Bit late of me to chip in, but:
“Very little difference between the Taliban and the Christian right wing. And both have their terrorist wing.”
Any evidence for those statements?
Thought not.
With such a first post in a thread – you’re revealing just how blindly you hate (i) christians (ii) the right wing. For a change, you didn’t include the USA this time.
The Klu Klux Klan were Christian Terrorists and currently the Army of God operate in the US and have been responsible for the killing of various workers at abortion clinics and of course the 96 Atlanta Olympics bombing was by Christian terrorists; although obviously, while the Christian Right in America may share many values with the Taliban, they are not so prolific in their killing sprees.
I am so pleased that so many liberals are so indignant about the election of Peter Davies of the English Democrats. Having for so long had the political stage to yourselves with few dissenting voices it would appear that the worm has turned and the prols have found a torch bearer. Funny thing is, he speaks for the majority of the right minded people in this country. Remember them, the people you have ridden roughshod over for years, ignoring the will of the electors and spouting your dogma. The people that have bourne the brunt of rubbish social polices and experiments that have trashed a once beautiful and productive country.
You liberals are the scum of the earth, the cause of misery and suffering for many people because you have such blinkered and remote thought processes. You live in a cerebal world that is devoid of the realities of life. Im guessing you have realised I blame liberals for most of the worlds problems. Liberalism is cancer, something to be cut from the world and replaced with right minded people.

Hard to work out if half-wit Philip Davies is more or less moronic than his slack-jawed father. http://bit.ly/6OINvn http://bit.ly/6afXZh
