Home secretary Alan Johnson has rejected the idea of sharing a platform with the British National Party.
The Guardian politics blog reports that he told the BBC Politics Show he had not changed his mind.
I’ve gone 59 years without sharing a platform with a fascist, and I don’t intend to start doing it now.
The Labour Party is mullng over whether to reverse its ‘no platform’ policy against the BNP.
The question arose over recent reports that the BBC was considering a representative on Question Time after the party had two representative elected as MEPs.
But the New Statesman’s James Macintyre wrote recently that the election decision had little to do with the BNP’s success at the EU elections – the broadcaster had been mulling over the decision two years earlier.

Over the years I have seen queasy photos of British MPs smiling and shaking hands with all sorts of vicious demagogues and abusers of human rights – why throw a hissy fit over the BNP?
“the election had little to do with the BNP’s success at the EU elections”
eh?
Not that I’m immune to this sort of thing, but shouldn’t that be the ‘decision’ had little to do with the BNPs’ success?
Dear Labour Party,
Um, JON CRUDDAS?!
Love, the sane world.
Why are we even having this discussion? Has Cruddas said no? He’s the expert in debunking, etc, etc. C’mon Jon!
whoops! amended…
Watching Grinning Tony Blair practically wetting himself with excitement when fawning – literally fawning – over a very aloof and disdainful Gadhaffi was a treat that made me want to quit the Labour Party all over again.
So Postman Pat – the person who wants the mass immigration of litelly millions of Third Worlders like Somalis, Sudanis, Kurds, Eritreans, Senegalese and so on – is too proud and high and mighty to meet and debate the people who would demolish his Sesame Street / Kumbaya / multiculti drivel face to face.
Vernon means that Postman Pat literally desires the immigration of millions of people from appalling and vile Third World hellholes in the hope that our country will become more vibrant and colourful.
So where is the evidence that the government actually want millions of immigrants from the third world?
Spending over a decade attempting to tighten immigration laws and regulations through successive immigration acts seems a funny way to go about it.
Refusing asylum even to people who have fought and helped the UK such as the Iraqi interpreters or gurkas seems a funny way to go about it.
Deporting Canadian students because of a mix up over paperwork seems a funny way to go about it.
One of the four or so constituents of fascism per Chambers Dictionary is “militarism”. Alan Johnson voted for the British military to go to Iraq where they took part in the slaughter of around a million Muslims and Kurds. In contrast, the BNP always opposed the war. Who are the fascists?
“In contrast, the BNP always opposed the war. Who are the fascists?”
Oh please! We all know who the fascists are.
