Ouch! What a disaster.

But I think Tories are being quite hypocritical here – I thought they were all for free speech and not being politically correct?

As @thedancingflea rightly said on Twitter:

In all seriousness, the question posed by Mrs Duffy is exactly why we shouldn’t use the language of the right to talk about immigration.

Was anyone ever less temperamentally suited to be PM?
(Or hold any high office…?!)

“But I think Tories are being quite hypocritical here – I thought they were all for free speech and not being politically correct?”

Why didn’t he have the balls to say it to her face then?

[1] “Was anyone ever less temperamentally suited to be PM?”

After this performance hard to say;

Did Cammo insult them afterwards?
I missed that.

Gordon Brown has his Gerald Ratner moment.
Could a few words change the political landscape in the UK for ever.

Not his Gerald Ratner moment – the first Joe the Plumber moment of rhe UK campaign…

the first Joe the Plumber moment of rhe UK campaign…

That one worked well the last time.

ouch indeed! he was doing so well too… *sigh*

This outburst made me like Brown just a little bit more. At least we know now that he doesn’t LIKE pandering to people he thinks are bigots.

@10
But wouldn’t it have been much better if he’d said that to her face? “Fuck off, you bigoted old trout” would have done the trick, nicely.

The funny thing is that the original encounter went perfectly OK.

Only in the parallel universe of the prime mentalist would a few (not terribly hostile) questions count as a “disaster”.

She is bigoted.

“can’t talk about immigration” – bollocks, it’s all you lot ever talk about.

Brown was right. But it looks bad because he said one thing to her in person, and another behind her back. Perfect encapsulation of the right wing press’s accusations that labour dont give a shit about white bigots.

I’m more concenred about Mr. Brown addressing everyone as “y’all” at 04.39

I love this thread.

If anyone is the “core” vote it is this woman.

And you lot hate her.

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful.

Better dissolve the people and elect another, eh?

Better dissolve the people and elect another, eh?

It’s a thought – my favourite political quote is “The people have spoken – the bastards”

The fact is, we, the people, are not wonderful – we are irrational, mean-minded and, yes, bigoted. To hear a politician, even inadvertently, not fawning to us and giving us a few home truths, is actually quite refreshing. Like many on here, my only problem is that he should have said to her face.

[4] “I missed that” – yes, if there is a moral to the story it is to make sure that the mikes are off before speaking your mind – as Big Ron found to his cost;
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2004/apr/23/football.race1

Unless you think Cameron’s private utterances are entirely in sync with his phony public persona?

Badstephen:“To hear a politician, even inadvertently, not fawning to us…”

Except, of course, that fawn is just what he did. In public. Excuse FAIL!

19. Badstephen

Julia, which bit of “he should have said it to her face” did you not understand?

The bit where you confuse his assumed private words with his public fawning, of course. You can’t possibly claim that what ge said was some sort of breath of fresh air when it’s clear you were never meant to hear it. What you were meant to hear was the fawning.

Excuse epic FAIL!

Brown’s mistake was to apologise. The woman droned on the usual BNP crap about East European immigration. Coming over here for jobs the bosses want filled and actually doing a day’s work for their pay. Bloody Poles. Better to stay on the scrap heap moaning on about how unfair it all is, and denying the Holocaust. Let’s hope the BNP can get a constitution which the courts will let through, like the real democratic parties. I’m 50% Polish, this is the Brit half speaking (the Polish bit just wouldn’t engage) only met my dad 4 years back, he’s 97 this year and worth the whole membership of the BNP and UKIP combined and more, a true hero and a real friend of Britain. He used to drop into Germany and cut their throats, organised against fascists and stalinists, his wife was in the Warsaw Uprising in 1944, aged 17 as a nurse and a runner. Memories are short for some. It was good to hear some honesty of feeling, a pity he didn’t just turn round and say, well she got on my wick.

“It was good to hear some honesty of feeling…”

What kind of bizarre universe do you have to inhabit where a muttered aside to an aide that is clearly not meant for the hearing of the woman you’ve just been speaking to is considered ‘honesty of feeling’..?

“…a pity he didn’t just turn round and say, well she got on my wick.”

That would have been considered ‘honesty of feeling’. Can you figure out why he didn’t do that? Go on, have a go…

The UK looks like its going down the shitter. Im sure London is a great city now with a black and pakistani majority haha. No wonder the BNP is seen as a threat by most parties there.
