ConservativeHome shoots Andrew Lansley

When three cabinet ministers want to take out Andrew Lansley and shoot him, the NHS bill is pretty much dead.
Today ConservativeHome makes the argument I made only yesterday:
Only 25% of voters think it’s one of the top three issues facing the country. But the state of public opinion today isn’t the issue. The issue is public opinion next winter and in the winter of 2013/14 and beyond.
…
The NHS Bill is not just a distraction from all of this but potentially fatal to the Conservative Party’s electoral prospects. It must be stopped before it’s too late.
It will take some almighty miracle to get the NHS bill passed now.

Why? Have the LibDems decided to vote against it?
Although it is good to see the Coalition caught off balance on this, there is still a risk that the Bill will pass. The ideas behind the Bill no longer make any sense, but plenty of MPs may vote for it even if they do not understand it and do not agree with it. Tories may vote for it out of party loyalty and because a defeat for the Bill will also be a defeat for neo-liberal ideology. LibDem MPs may vote for it to show their commitment to the Coalition.
If Cameron and Lansley cannot get the Bill through they will have lost a lot of momentum in their drive to privatise other services. They will be weighing up the pros and cons of backing down (and be perceived as being weak in some quarters) or pushing on (and being where Thatcher was after the Poll Tax legislation was passed).
The public will never forgive the Lie Dems if they pass this sell off bill.
Most tories will stay loyal because they are genetically in bred to vote tory.
@3 Sally
I don’t think the public will forgive the Lib Dems whether they support the bill or not. 2015 will be a good year to be Green.
