Urge your MP to sign this EDM against ATOS

An Early Day Motion is a chance for MPs to raise awareness of serious issues. Although there is very little prospect of EDMs being debated, many attract a great deal of public interest and frequently receive media coverage.

John McDonnell, backbencher Labour MP has been the most loyal supporter of the sick and disabled in our campaign to scrap the DWPs Work Capability Assessments (WCAs) that are used to determine “fitness for work.”

He has tabled this EDM to raise awareness of the problems, consulting widely with disability groups, disabled people and charities.

Currently, the EDM has received 78 signatures, making it the 9th most signed EDM!

This is completely fantastic and thank you SO much to those MPs who’ve already signed. It’s wonderful to see so many new names strengthening the voices of sick and disabled people and realising that far from being unreasonable, we are urgently concerned that the WCAs are failing so many people with serious illnesses and disabilities.

Jamie Cartwright, disability campaigner and writer (@Epipsychidion86) has put together a brilliant, simple website to help people ask more MPs to sign.

This link http://edm295.blogspot.co.uk/ will take you to the site and you can see who’s signed, who can’t sign, who can and use an easy tool to approach any you feel might like to know more about Atos, ESA and WCAs.

Although EDMs are largely symbolic, the more MPs that sign, the more we know support their constituents suffering through wrong decisions, lengthy, stressful appeals and increased poverty.

It is also time for all these disability groups, organisations and all others to come together and cry out with one voice. If all these groups and people come together as one they have more chance of getting justice for the most vulnerable in society.

In addition to this, all these groups should come together as one and start fund raising (getting voluntary donations) to get GOOD legal advice looking into all the legalities of what Tory politicians and this Tory Led Coalition have done from the start when David Cameron promised live during the final televised electoral debate 2010 that if he became prime minister the sick, disabled, vulnerable and poorest in society have nothing to fear because he would protect them but the reality is : as soon as Cameron became prime minister that group of vulnerable people became targeted for discrimination and persecuted, vilified, abused and subjected to endless discrimination as Cameron and company pumped out/peddled false and misleading information to justify their barbaric and ruthless cutbacks to the very people that they promised to protect.

What David Cameron and ATOS have done is draconian and wrong which needs to be challenged in a court of law.

If all these organisations, groups and others come together they will then be able to bring this Tory Led Coalition to account. Time to come together as one and fight for justice.

My MP, as students of the Crewe and Nantwich by-election campaign will know, is a Tory, but is on the sensible wing of the party, so I’ve emailed him appropriately.

From the feedback I’ve been getting it seems a lot of MPs aren’t really aware of this EDM, so the more of them we can get in touch with, the better chance of securing some real support against ATOS’s Work Capability Assessment. I’ve already heard of one more Labour MP who has signed today – it’s been really encouraging to see the progress which has been made over the last few days. :-)

The EDM seems to say (only in support of the BMA position) that WCA ‘should be replaced with something else which is better’.

Does anyone know what this is?

Well no but the government could end the stupidity, Blind person who walks with a carer or uses s white stick, fails to get ESA. Blind person who uses a guide dog gets ESA.

Person who is in a wheelchair will be taken as being mobile will not get ESA, person in an electric wheelchair will get WCA.

Lots of other silly idiotic problems.

i do not mind having medicals I use to have one every three years, but make them fair.
