Dorries continues war on Cam: ‘I want PM Boris!’

I’m starting to develop a soft spot for Nadine Dorries… at least while she wages war on David Cameron.
In a front-page splash in the Sun today, here is what she tells the tabloid:
I long for the day Boris Johnson is Prime Minister. He is a good man and a hero of mine, and he can reach people other politicians can’t.
People say to me, ‘He’s such a liberal’ — but I don’t care. I do believe this will happen, and that he will be Prime Minister. If he doesn’t, it might be the day I consider giving up being an MP.
There is a real control mechanism under Cameron in Number Ten now. MPs and how they vote are tampered with.
If Boris Johnson was Prime Minister and issues like abortion came to Parliament, it would be a free vote. And it would be a FREE vote.
He wouldn’t tamper with people’s views, unlike what happens now in Cameron’s Westminster, and he would be more statesmanlike.
Nadine Dorries believes Boris wouldn’t try and exercise discipline within the party at all. I can’t believe she could be so naive but it’s very amusing.
The Sun says Dorries has also been dubbed ‘Mad Nad’ and quotes her being defiant about the whip being taken away from her.
But I can’t be de-selected. I’m MP for Mid-Bedfordshire till 2015 and will justify this to my constituents properly when I get home.
I have achieved exactly what I set out to achieve by going into the jungle. I wanted to go in because I wanted to reach a wider audience.
But a degree of panic set in at Number Ten when they found out, because they thought I was going in to damage David Cameron and George Osborne. They thought, ‘What can we do to distance her and rubbish her quickly before she rubbishes us’? It was completely infantile and stupid.
I’m absolutely not worried about breaching the MPs’ code of conduct. What’s the penalty for a breach? You have to stand up in the House of Commons and say, ‘I’m so sorry I breached the code’. Do me a favour — I have bigger things to worry about than that.
She’s got guts – I’ll give her that. Nadine Dorries is on an absolute war path, and trying to take the whip away from her may have been a big mistake by Cameron.
She is unlikely to want to go independent or switch to UKIP now: I don’t think the voters of Mid-Bedfordshire would stick with her.
She is more likely to try hardest to stay as a Tory MP, while attacking both Cameron and Osborne continually.

She’s like the Tory version of Tony Benn.

No: she’s as determined and as mad as Tony, but vastly more stupid and a terrible public speaker.
In this case “My enemy’s enemy” doesn’t apply. Nad is a loopy, lose canon tea-partyer. It may be fun to watch the damage to the tory party but Murdoch will take her on as he did Sarah Palin. (Who called Dorries the Pound Shop Palin? Genius!) The wider influence on politics could be very harmful.
But Bozza is an Eton and Oxbridge educated posh boy. I thought Dorries detested them?
Fragmented nutters the lot of them within this Tory Led Coalition of discriminating, hypocritical, deceitful, evil, lying, self serving, poor bashing, despicable specimens of the human race !
“I long for the day Boris Johnson is Prime Minister.”
He’s not even in parliament you moron! I hate this idea that there’s an elite of politicians who are destined for high office – like those people who Labour fast tracks into the shadow cabinet months after they’ve been elected, overlooking long serving, experienced politicians.
I’m amazed by the short-term memory of these Boris supporting Tories. He wasn’t exactly a firebrand dynamo MP or shadow cabinet minister. It’s hard to really be dedicated to a job when you’re editing a magazine at the same time. Then again, he’s essentially continuing this pattern in the Mayor office by holding down a high paying columnist job on the side. Real dedication to the people that elected you there, BoJo.
As for Dorries, I give her a year at the most before she quits as an MP to go off and become the UK’s Ann Coulter.
Nadine Dorries may have a point. Boris could become leader of the Conservative Party. I reckon he will go for Croydon South, now that Richard Ottoway is retiring, and will finish the last year of his last term as an MP which is what Ken Livingstone did. He could stand on anti-Heathrow expansion ticket, claiming that he is trying to put the issue of Heathrow at the forefront of the General Election. Unless, No 10 try and fix the selection and put Gavin Barwell or someone else in Croydon South, it would be easy for Boris to get that seat. That way he could contest the Tory leadership after he finishes his term and it is clear there are several Tory MPs who would back his leadership campaign. I reckon Nadine Dorries is looking for promotion if Boris becomes leader, possibly as a shadow junior health minister – similar to Diane Abbott.
Boris doesn’t want to be PM. That is grown up politics.
The only people who want Boris are the harry placers, Nick Cohen and Martin Bright. Even then they would prefer Govey.
