It’s fascinating to see that the extent of Palestinian violence is one youth throwing a stone against a tank.
No rockets or suicide bombers, then.
After the vote from the political wing of the the eurovision songcontest we see Netanyahu throwing his toys out of the pram again. I think a vote of 138 to 8 (not including the jewish owned Capitol Hill vote) he might have got the message.
Maybe God tells him to do it?

I think they throw stones cos they don’t benefit from the huge US subsidies on arms like Israel
It’s worth looking at the map of this.
This area around Jerusalem is extremely contentious, and it’s difficult to see a border ever being agreed.
The E1 block has been considered by the Israeli right wing as land that is essential to Israel’s strategic interests … or something.
It’s unlikely that they would ever have agreed to it becoming part of a new Palestinian state.
It efectively connects the large settlement of Ma’ale Adumim to the rest of Jerusalem.
They say it cuts a Palestinian state in half, and Israelis might say it guarantees their security and allows for a greater Jerusalem .. which is obviously what those hawkish types want.
Btw, does this statehood thing at the UN go against the Oslo accords? Weren’t all these issues supposed to come about through bilateral negotiations?
As this is a subject that can’t seem to be discussed across ideological lines, I guess that everyone just choses their side.
If you can stomach it, they have been discussing this on Harry’s Place. You might need to be on Google Chrome to read it though.
Israel-Palestine update
Reading that shows how impossible this whole thing is. It looks like there could never be a settlement.
In Northern Ireland they fudged a compromise, and the violence last night over the removing of the Union Jack from Belfast City Hall showed what weak foundations that peace was built on.
Israel/Palestine doesn’t even have that advantage of being abble to fudge things and put it all on the back burner to be resolved at some time in the future.

“It’s fascinating to see that the extent of Palestinian violence is one youth throwing a stone against a tank.”
The picture is a criticism of Netanyahu’s policy, and thus the label for that image – “Pursue violence…” – refers to Israeli violence. Using a picture of Palestinian violence against Israelis wouldn’t make sense. And if they did use such a picture, I’m guessing you’d triumphantly declare that the anti-Zionist propaganda campaign was passing off Palestinian sins as Israeli. Because you can always find something to complain about if you try hard enough.
@ Chaise
“The picture is a criticism of Netanyahu’s policy, and thus the label for that image – “Pursue violence…” – refers to Israeli violence.”
No it’s not. You have cut short the quote. Read again. The quote says “Pursue violence to end occupation”, just as the one below says “Pursue non-violence to end occpation”. It’s obviously and logically a reference to Palestinian, not Israeli, actions.
@ Lamia
You’re quite right. Objection and snark withdrawn.
Thanks Chaise.
Ironically an Israeli PM who’s single biggest aim in life is to further the cause of settlers – has announced plans that make eventual social cleansing of the settlements almost innevitable.
It would take an inhumanly magnamous Palestine to allow them to remain in place now that doing so would cut off its capital from its land.
And Palestine is growing its diplomatic influence, its economic capacity, and its institutions of state. Eventually it will have the capacity to expell all settlers – and by ignoring that eventuality, the Israeli PM has condemned all settlers to losing their homes and their communities in the end.
@ 1 Lamia
I was in Israel in the first Intifada when the Palestinians threw stones and were then mown down by IDF soldiers.
Would you carry on throwing stones in that situation or would you take up arms. Lucky the French Resisitance took up arms hey.
You would have sat being a collaborator.
On the IDF and the Intifada, try this:
“PHR sent a medical team to Israel, Gaza and the West Bank from October 20-27, 2000 to investigate claims that Israel Defense Force (IDF) is using excessive force in the current conflict that has pitted Israeli troops and settlers against Palestinian demonstrators and combatants. (full report attached) . .
“Physicians for Human Rights USA (PHR) finds that the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) has used live ammunition and rubber bullets excessively and inappropriately to control demonstrators, and that based on the high number of documented injuries to the head and thighs, Israeli soldiers appear to be shooting to inflict harm, rather than solely in self-defense.
“The three person team was composed of forensic pathologists Robert Kirschner, M.D., University of Chicago Medical School, Nizam Peerwani, M.D., Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office, and James C. Cobey, M.D., M.P.H., an orthopaedic surgeon based in Washington, D.C.”

That was when Ehud Barak was Israeli PM. He is now the Defence minister in Netanyahu’s coalition government.
So Lamia as a free market Tory. Explain why the massive subsidy, not loan, to Israel. Long live Ron Paul, the only US/UK politician who isn’t a hypocrite.
@ P Diddy,
I am not and never have been a Tory, free market or otherwise. And I don’t fetch sticks, you patronising turd.
“I am not and never have been a Tory, free market or otherwise. And I don’t fetch sticks, you patronising turd.”
I apologize but so many of your previous posts indicate that you are.
So it is the EDL or Likud or tea party republicans that you follow.

‘I am not and never have been a Tory, free market or otherwise. And I don’t fetch sticks, you patronising turd’
but you clearly feel comfortable with a mentality of taking land by force and consolidating and extending that ownership through violence and the persecution of the native population.
I agree that doesn’t make you a tory.
I am still interested as to why you think Israel has a right to exist and what that right is based on.
