A cartoon cannot possibly be the “best response”.

You give Sky News a credit.
Why not the multi award-winning cartoonist, Dave Brown?

3. Man on Clapham Omnibus

Could Labour do better and if so how?

A cartoon cannot possibly be the “best response”

I’m not sure, but there have been cartoons in the past that have been a perfect response Zec “Don’t lose it again” VE cartoon springs to mind

(Not sure this one is in that league)

@ 4 Redfish

I’m not saying it’s bad, I just mean that a cartoon isn’t in-depth enough to address all the issues. Rational debate first, satire second.

This looks so much more like the cover of a news magazine (Spectator/New Statesman etc) than an actual newspaper that I wonder whether something is being prepared. After all, the Independent hasn’t much of a future as it stands.

CG @ 5:

“Rational debate first, satire second.”

Well said. Though Sunny might say ‘Narrative first, satire second’, which boils down to ‘propaganda’.

TJ @ 6: Good point. And the cartoon somehow looks like it was a while in gestation.

“Well said. Though Sunny might say ‘Narrative first, satire second’, which boils down to ‘propaganda’”
Does that go for the cover of the spectator as well.
Does TONE stand for Tony. Love it
That is so clever.

@6. Tim J: “This looks so much more like the cover of a news magazine (Spectator/New Statesman etc) than an actual newspaper that I wonder whether something is being prepared.”

Naah, it was just about splashing a reasonable cartoon on the front page. Under previous ownership and editorship, the Independent used photos in a “wow, fuck me” way. It was like looking at an art gallery catalogue.

Today’s splash was great but there was no way to put that much black ink onto newsprint.

“Does that go for the cover of the spectator as well.”

I was not commenting on the Indy cover as such, but on Sunny’s attitude to it.

After this, just possibly there is the prospect of hope and redemption for George Osborne:

I completely agree! After a couple of days reflection – we’ve analysed the Autumn Statement for its political and economic content – here’s our take: http://www.allthatsleft.co.uk/2012/12/george-osborne-five-things-we-learned-or-re-learned-from-the-autumn-statement/
