Is London’s part-time Mayor worried that his Tory brand may be too toxic?

His newly launched campaign website website contains almost no obvious reference to his Tory party roots.

Today’s Daily Telegraph picks up on this airbrushing attempt:

The front page of Mr Johnson’s website also only contains a single reference to the party in the small print.

It has prompted suggestions from his rivals for the election on May 3 that Mr Johnson, one of the party’s most popular figures, was somehow trying to hide his allegiance to the Conservatives.

In fact the website barely mentions the Conservative party – at the bottom in small letters.

The fact that Labour is ahead of the Conservatives in London by double-digits can’t help…

Perhaps I might clear this matter up.

Under the Police Amendment ACT (1997) Section 5 entitled
‘Making up crimes as you go along’ it quite clearly states and I quote

‘Failing to make a political or social point in an erudite manner may make you liable to spurious prosecution.’

You’ll find this cleverly hidden between between section IV relating to assaults of Police officer’s boots with suspects heads and section (VIII) entitled ‘hurting people we dont like’.

Well, the use of blue all over the place is a clue…

Otherwise, does Mr Livingston’s site show his allegiance (really?) to Labour? Mayoral elections are more about the individual than the party (and conceivably more than one party could back a single candidate) so is this really of that much concern.

As you say, it could simply be good politics as well – Conservatives are unpopular, Mr Johnson is not: emphasis the brand that is more popular and ignore the other one.

One tiny logo in the corner. It’s a Mayoral election and as such is a glorified personality contest. If you want more plugging of party ties, get rid of the stupid elected dictator concept and bring back the GLC.
