Last week the Met Office co-ordinated a huge list of UK scientists to sign up to this statement:

We, members of the UK science community, have the utmost confidence in the observational evidence for global warming and the scientific basis for concluding that it is due primarily to human activities. The evidence and the science are deep and extensive. They come from decades of painstaking and meticulous research, by many thousands of scientists across the world who adhere to the highest levels of professional integrity. That research has been subject to peer review and publication, providing traceability of the evidence and support for the scientific method.

The science of climate change draws on fundamental research from an increasing number of disciplines, many of which are represented here. As professional scientists, from students to senior professors, we uphold the findings of the IPCC Fourth Assessment Report, which concludes that ‘Warming of the climate system is unequivocal’ and that ‘Most of the observed increase in global average temperatures since the mid-20th century is very likely due to the observed increase in anthropogenic greenhouse gas concentrations’.

There’s 120 institutions and over 1700 people represented in the statement

How many sceptic institutions are on this list?

All of them are sceptics. All scientists are sceptics.

3. Grumpy Old Man

…except those who clearly arn’t. The sceptical scientists are known as deniers.

“That research has been subject to peer review and publication…” – oh well, that’s OK then. We all know that the peer review process is immune to manipulation, don’t we?

So the only sceptical scientists are the ones who agree with you…hmmm

120 institutions, 1,700 people – all involved in a giant conspiracy. All too terrified to admit that they’re involved because they’ll lose their jobs / funding. Laughable.

Try this. It makes Sarah Palin’s op-ed in the Washington Post seem sensible.

4. Great logic – we may be able to demonstrate that one or two people have made comments which make it look as though the peer review process may not be 100% perfect, so therefore the entire process is completely useless!

Much better to just agree that all viewpoints are equally valid, nobody needs any evidnece for anything, the scientific method is worthless.

Not quite, Ian. The fact that certain core data, on which many models rely, may be contaminated, (why and how is another question), puts any modelling which has used that data into question. “garbage in, garbage out” .
Why not look at Watts Up? and get a balanced view of the argument?

Can you point me to a pro-warming article on that site?

Ian. Sorry, I was unclear. To balance the Alarmist hypothesis, look at Watts Up so that you can see both sides of the argument.

look at Watts Up so that you can see both sides of the argument.

Yes, do let’s look at the man who tried to use DCMA to prevent Peter Sinclair blowing a hole in his argument about US Surface Stations and who’s recently published two articles on temperatures records from the Southern hemisphere both on which have been shown to rely on fraudulent analysis ‘tricks’,

“been shown to rely on fraudulent analysis ‘tricks’,”

So both sides are “at it”?
