Holocaust Memorial Day

How remiss of me to forget to post anything to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.

Well, it may be a day late but lets correct that particular omission with a video that says pretty much everything that needs to be said…

Remembering the Holocaust is not enough. Bosnia/Srebrenika/Rwanda/Biafra………

Pity, or should it be shame, there is so little interest in this post at Liberal Conspiracy. I found the last seconds of the clip almost unbearably moving.

there is so little interest in this post at Liberal Conspiracy

How typical of a usual troll to say that. Just because a post has little in the way of comments doesn’t mean it has no interest. Idiot.

Admiral:

Sometimes, there are no adequate words… but yes, unbearably moving is a good way of putting it.

Wasn’t the 4m figure shown to be an overestimation on the part of Soviet authorities who first had access to Auschwitz?

Perhaps the lack of posts reflects the sober respect of not wanting to ‘debate’ this?

Thanks for marking it so appropriately, Unity. A great video of a great man.

I thought it was a great video.

The lack of comments is probably because there is so little to argue about here: who could disagree?

It’s not even a subject on which many people would be prepared to play Devil’s Advocate.

Little interest from the BMC…….

Unity . Thank you . The video is incredibly moving and makes me vitally important point that without doubt there can be no humility. This belief by humans in absolute certainty seems to to be cause of many problems.

The video does raise a question as to whether todays televisions companies and audiences are prepared to invest in productions of such intellectual breadth and depth. As many of those people who experienced and survived the horrors of WW2 are now dead, are we in danger of forgetting ?

I agree Charlie, it was an incredibly moving piece and it was good to see Bronovski again, he did some amazing work. See though my first comment. We have already forgotten the lessons of the holocaust.

And the lesson is how easily ordinary men and women can be converted into arrogant, complacent concentration camp guards; into creatures so repellent that my father had difficulty preventing his hardened soldiers mutinying and massacring those SS men.

That is the lesson we need to recall in every country as we commeorate the gypsies, communists, jews, homosexuals, liberals, republican Spaniards and each individual who was turned into a number and then into ashes.
